In the 1930s Kyōzō published a set of woodblock prints which included more than thirty pictures of flowers and (or) birds. Ten of these pictures are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Kyōzō drew objects in the style of the seventeenth century Japanese artist Kōrin Ogata. In this style flowing lines, curved shapes and bold coloring are used to bring objects in the picture to life. To further increase a picture’s visual impact on viewers Kyōzō often colored plants using a combination of true-to-life and false colors (e.g., prints 1-5).
